This piece was inspired by RaideDeviant's "Blue Embrace." The key words for inspiration that she suggested were "fish, underwater, eyes, blue-green-yellow colours."
It took me a little while to think of a subject, but then I realized that one of my characters is a pirate who is kelpie-inspired, which means that he probably wouldn't mind being underwater at all. And his ship would probably be magicked to be able to go underwater, too.
I liked the idea of having fish [the very same kind in Blue Embrace] swirling about on deck with the captain as his ship is sinking. I also incorporated the glowing orange/yellow lights from the inspiration into this piece, and I used most of the same colors that were used in the inspiration piece as well [and I think I like the palette for Moray's outfit so much that it might become the real colors for his outfit].
It was very interesting taking someone's else's artwork and directly using it for inspiration like this. I think I may do it again sometime.
